WiMAX in ITU

Evolution of the IMT-2000 OFDMA TDD WMAN Radio Interface Technology

The WiMAX Forum and the IEEE regularly contribute to the work of ITU-R Working Party 5D toward the update process of Recommendation ITU-R M.1457 in accordance with the established ITU-R processes defined in Circular Letter 8/LCCE/95. In 2008-2009, the WiMAX Forum and IEEE contributed to the ITU-R activities towards revision of Recommendation ITU-R M.1457-8 (M.1457-9). The WiMAX Forum submitted a Mobile System Profile Release 1.5 and associated Radio Specifications, which were applied in conjunction with IEEE Std 802.16-2009 in M.1457-9. The enhancements to the IMT-2000 OFDMA TDD WMAN radio interface included additional capabilities such as addition of FDD mode and greater flexibility in channel bandwidth options. The WiMAX Forum looks forward to continued involvement in the ITU-R and cooperation with IEEE for future updates of Rec. ITU-R M.1457.
